Our Home

Experience the Beauty and Heritage of Bangladesh

Bangladesh is a young nation rooted in an ancient and remarkably rich civilization. Located in South Asia, the country is shaped by the vast Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna river system and forms a major part of the world’s largest river delta. Its fertile plains, waterways, wetlands, forests and diverse landscapes have shaped the country’s culture, economy and way of life for centuries.

Long before modern trade routes connected the world, the region that is now Bangladesh was renowned for its textiles and craftsmanship. Dhaka’s legendary muslin, celebrated for its extraordinary fineness, became a highly prized textile in international markets.

Today, Bangladesh combines a rich historical heritage with a rapidly developing economy, vibrant cities, a young population and a distinctive cultural identity.

Bangladesh is a young nation on ancient ground, shaped by one of the world’s great river-delta systems and a rich history of commerce, craftsmanship and cultural exchange.

For JAJIRA GROUP this is not brochure copy. It is where our farmers work, where our tailors learned their craft, and where every one of our concerns was founded.

The Working Country

What Bangladesh is good at

The apparel industry started here in 1978 with almost nothing. Four decades later it is the second largest in the world — and the same combination of young workers, cheap logistics and stubbornness is now reaching agriculture, retail and services. These are the conditions JAJIRA GROUP builds in.

Trade and Industry

Forty years of manufacturing experience, and a location that makes trade the obvious business.

  • Second largest apparel exporter in the world
  • The largest importer of cotton on earth
  • Around 40 years of textile and garment expertise
  • Roughly 13% average annual growth over the last decade
  • Exporting to more than 130 countries
  • 100 special economic zones planned over 15 years
  • Mega projects underway on rail, road, ports and airports
  • The Padma Bridge opening the south-west to the capital

People

The single asset this country has more of than anyone else — and the one it is investing in hardest.

  • About 70% of the population is under 40
  • A large, educated and motivated young workforce
  • High literacy (around 72%) among 15–24 year olds
  • Roughly 2 million young people entering work each year
  • Over 117 million mobile phone users
  • Internet reaching a third of the population and climbing
  • 4.4 million people working in apparel alone

Green Manufacturing

Bangladesh now holds more LEED certified garment factories than any other country.

  • 67 LEED certified factories, with 220 more registered
  • 13 certified platinum
  • 20 certified gold
  • 26 certified silver
  • Electricity generation capacity raised to about 15,300 MW
  • LNG terminals built out to meet gas demand
  • A sustained push on cleaner production
